Purpose Tutoring was founded by JD Hopper, a Charlotte-based tutor and mentor with a passion for helping students discover and pursue their purpose. JD’s journey began with exceptional academic achievement: graduating UNC–Chapel Hill with honors in just two years thanks to a spotless high school record, numerous AP and dual-enrollment credits, and a love of learning that shaped his early life.

After college, JD stepped into the fast track of financial consulting, but soon realized that conventional career success wasn’t where his heart truly belonged. Drawn by a deeper calling, he left the corporate world to invest in what mattered most to him—guiding young people to thrive academically and personally.

For more than three years, JD has tutored middle and high school students across a wide range of subjects—from Algebra and AP Calculus to SAT/ACT preparation and advanced study skills—while mentoring them to build confidence, resilience, and a clear sense of direction. Families consistently praise his ability to combine rigorous academic coaching with genuine mentorship, helping students set ambitious goals and take concrete steps toward them.
