Today, admissions officers are also increasingly wary of AI driven content and ghost-writing by adults. At Purpose Tutoring, our students develop and write their own essays. Our mission is to help them tell their unique story with our guidance, not to write it for them.

We walk students through the entire process, from brainstorming to outlining, drafting and final editing. Purpose Tutoring offers structure and pragmatism, eliminating the parent/child gridlock that often accompanies writing a college essay at home.

1. Comprehensive College Essay Package (1:1)

Best for: Students who want full start to finish support on their main Common App essay and a strategy for supplements.

What is included:

  • 1st meeting: Application and Common App overview

  • 2nd meeting: Deep dive brainstorming and topic selection

  • 3rd meeting: Detailed outline and structure

  • 4th and 5th meetings: Draft review and major revisions

  • 6th meeting: Final polish, word count, and clarity

  • 7th meeting: Supplements essays and prompts

Between sessions, your coach reviews drafts and leaves comments. With your permission, a coach can be added as a “reviewer” in the student’s Common App account to leave comments directly on drafts.

2. Essay Essentials Package (1:1)

Best for: Students who already like writing or have limited time, but want expert help with direction and polish.

What is included:

  • 1st meeting: Common App overview and topic brainstorming

  • 2nd meeting: Outline and first draft feedback

  • 3rd meeting: Final revision and polishing

You will also receive written comments on drafts between sessions.

Structure:
3 one-on-one sessions, 60 minutes each

3. Small Group Essay Workshop Series

Best for: Students who learn well alongside peers who want a more affordable option.

Format:

A 4 week series, capped at 4 students:

  • Week 1: What colleges look for, Common App overview, brainstorming exercises

  • Week 2: Structure and first drafts, examples and guided writing

  • Week 3: Revision strategies, voice, and clarity

  • Week 4: Final polish, supplements strategy, future planning

Students get clear homework between sessions and are encouraged to share drafts for feedback. Parents will receive a summary at the end.

Structure:
4 group sessions, 60 minutes each

How The Process Works

    You will receive a scheduling link for essay clients so we can lock in consistent meeting times.

    4. Draft, revise, and refine together

    Your coach guides your student through each step, with clear action items between sessions.

    5. Final review and confidence check

    We make sure the essay is polished, on time, and truly represents who your student is.

How Sessions Work

  • Location: Online or in-person if located in Charlotte, NC.

  • Length: 60 minutes per session

  • Format: Conversation, guided brainstorming, shared documents, and live editing

  • Common App access: With your permission, your coach can be added as a “reviewer” in the student’s Common App account to leave comments directly on drafts.

  • No. We help students discover strong topics, structure their ideas, and revise their own writing. The voice and content are always the student’s.

  • Many families begin in the spring of junior year or early summer before senior year. We also work with seniors who are already in the middle of the process.

  • Yes. The Comprehensive Package includes supplements strategy. For students who need intensive help with many supplements, we can discuss a custom add on.

  • That is very common. We break the process into manageable steps and help students build a realistic schedule, so they are not trying to write everything in one weekend.

  • We work with students nationwide through online coaching, and we also support Charlotte students in person when available.
